Certified Public Accountant
OK! So WHAT is a Certified Public Accountant?
Well, lets start at the beginning with "Certified". Basically, this means that I passed a test, given by the State of Louisiana, which then they issued me a license to call myself a "Certified Public Accountant". "Public" is even easier, it just means that I work for many different clients, not a single company. I have to be able to assist these clients in meeting their accounting needs. A person can be licensed to practice (or be in business) as a CPA, but have a job in industry. Now, what does an Accountant do? We record the flow of money within the organization. We safeguard the assets of the organization, by maintaining records of the ownership of assets. We prepare all of the reports that are necessary to be filed with the authorities, and other organizations that require information of an enterprise. Banks require annual statements of companies that they lend money to, Insurance Companies require statements from companies that they insure, and the Federal Government requires annual reports of organizations that they "grant" monies to. I help clients evaluate prospective employees, and decide whom to hire. This is a never-ending job. I am located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and licensed to practice in Louisiana. |
